Mexicali’s Metro Police K9 Police Dog program has received international awards for obedience, guard duties, sniffing drugs and guns, among others.
Mexicali Police K9 is an endeavor with specific goals and challenges; in its continued success, the program has turned dog handlers from the police department into qualified trainers.
The long-term goal of the K9 program is to strengthen Mexicali police actions through sound tactical training and to bring every officer and administrator involved in K9 to work closer together in an effort to heighten work standards and ethics, thus making each of our jobs safer.
Today Mexicali has 8 trained dogs available for duty, including service for industrial companies interested in detecting any abnormal behavior during a day’s work, if needed.
In schools for instance, these dogs have detected drugs which has helped to keep students away from drugs.
PIMSA congratulates Officer José Luis Cabrera, who heads a group of canine officers in Mexicali’s K9 Police Dog Team ready for patrol duties.
