Mexico has 7 out of the 10 most important companies from the global aerospace sector, among them we can emphasize the aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing; and engines producers such as UTC, GE, Safran and Rolls-Royce.
These companies will be attending Mexico’s Aerospace Summit 2015, which will take place on September 3rd and 4th in Queretaro, informed its organizer and MexicoNOW’s Director, Sergio Ornelas.
The total revenues of the top 100 aerospace companies, according to The Flight International Aerospace Top 100/2014, went up by 5.0% between 2013 and 2014 and profits increased 10% over the previous year.
The top 10 companies that dominate the ranking, hold 62% of the industry’s total revenue, thus proving this is a very centralized sector, asserted Ornelas.

London, United Kingdom.- The Secretary for Economic Development, Carlo Bonfante opened the representative office of the state that will drive the continued arrival of new investments and export of products.
To strengthen the position of Baja California as a business platform for European companies in America, The Secretary of Economic Development, Carlo Bonfante Olache representing Governor Francisco “Kiko” Vega de Lamadrid along with The Minister David Najera, Deputy Head of Mission of The Embassy of Mexico in London, inaugurated the representative office of the state that will drive the continued arrival of new investments and the export of products.
During the ceremony, the Secretary highlighted the commercial ties between Mexico and the UK, emphasizing the vision of trade liberalization and the use of international relations that have characterized Baja California.
He thanked Daniel King, Head of High Growth & Emerging Markets division of the UK Trade & Investment office, for their support to this initiative and the collaboration that has allowed trade missions in the state.
Among the attendees, were present the Regional Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa ProMéxico, Carlos Pavon and Mario Alberto Sanchez Gonzalez Alvarez, Director in the UK ProMéxico, who were referred as important allies with extensive experience and a strong network of relationships that will contribute the success of the performance.
Later, as part of the activities for retention of companies, Bonfante Olache met with Hugo Mauerstad, President of Navico Company, which has operations in Ensenada where electronic components are manufactured and used in navigation, where the goal was to reiterate the importance of the continuation and growth of the operations in Baja California and to introduce incentives to consolidate new projects.
During the meeting with the Ambassador of Mexico in UK, Diego Gomez Pickering, the Head of the SEDECO reiterated the interest of making the most of the Dual Year of the United Kingdom-Mexico 2015 and to project the state, he also thanked the collaboration that has had with the Embassy. For his part, the Ambassador said the opening of an office in Baja California contributes to the projection of Mexico as an attractive destination for European investors based on their international competitiveness.
The Secretary emphasized the presence of British companies like Smurffit Kappa, Esterline, Carl Zeiss, Reckitt Benckiser, Navico, Smiths Medical, Gameloft, Essilor, Dialight, Bosch, Techicolor, Tetra Pak, Hutchinson, GKN, Schneider and Zodiac Aerospace.

MEXICALI, B.C.- Sunday June 21, 2015.- With investments committed to the order of $ 142 million, Baja California reaffirms its national leadership in the aerospace industry, while boosting the competitiveness that favors the permanency, growth and new investments thus creating jobs, preceding as a result of the recent economic development tour around Europe , which was led by Governor Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, with a special participation in the International Paris Air Show held in Le Bourget, France from the 15 to 21 of June.
Thus, the state president explained that several international firms had announced major projects, both in expanding its operations as well as the arrival of new investments, which reflect real benefits with the generation of an estimated of 2,250 new jobs in Mexicali, Tijuana and Ensenada, decisions that are based on the mosaic of opportunities in Baja California.
Baja California government presented the program “Solarízate”, which will provide photovoltaic panels to 150 companies in Mexicali to take advantage of the electricity generation from renewable resources.
The program will have federal and state resources for 7.2 MD, according to data from the entity.
Alfredo Babun Villarreal, Economic Development sub secretary, said the program will generate saving opportunities for companies that consume up to $10,000 MXN of electricity. The program consists of a subsidy to purchase photovoltaic equipment with capacity of 2 kW and a value of $91,657 MXN, which can reduce energy costs by up to 40%.
With Aeromexico, Mexico’s global airline, now flying to Boston Logan International Airport a new world of opportunity is available to Massachusetts residents and businesses and promises to fuel convenient travel between New England and Latin America.
The market between Boston and Mexico City, combined with the airlines’ other 45 destinations in Mexico and Central America, represents over 492,000 passengers and $134M in ticket revenue annually.
“We are very pleased to add our 16th destination in the United States, reflecting the airline’s commitment to increase our presence in one of our most important markets. Boston is a city of great importance for Mexico and Latin America because of its global economic potential and extensive academic offerings that draw many students from Mexico and Latin America every year,” said Anko van der Werff, Aeromexico Chief Revenue Officer.
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker said the new route opens up connections to 16 major cities in Latin America including Buenos Aires, Lima and Bogota. “This new route not only opens doors for business, but it lets our diverse residents and visiting students easily connect to their families.”
Aeromexico began serving its new route between Boston and Mexico City on June 1st, 2015 with daily flights every day expect Tuesday. The new route is advantageous for both passengers traveling from Mexico on their way to the U.S. and Europe, and vice versa. As a member of the SkyTeam Airline Alliance, Aeromexico is able to take advantage of code sharing with Delta and other partner airlines and use Boston Logan International Airport as a gateway to Europe.
“We are thrilled to be adding Mexico City to the roster of extraordinary international destinations one can fly to nonstop from Boston,” Massport CEO Thomas P. Glynn said. “Mexico City is one of the largest cities in the world and dates back to the 1300s, our cities have several things in common. Like Boston, Mexico City is a place that honors its significant history, it is a cultural and political hub for its people, has a large concentration of universities, and it is a city that celebrates its diversity.”
This new route is served with Boeing 737-700 airplanes with 124 seats —12 in the Aeromexico Clase Premier Business Class cabin. Flight 699 leaves Boston at 4:20 p.m. and arrives in Mexico City at 8:42 p.m. Flight 698 leaves Mexico City at 9 a.m. and arrives in Boston at 3:05 p.m.
Before now, Boston had been the largest U.S.-Mexico City air travel market without nonstop service. Boston beat out Seattle, Portland and Philadelphia for this new nonstop service. Last year, more than 45,000 passengers traveled between Boston and Mexico City.
The estimated economic impact to the region of a Boston-Mexico City route is $45M annually. One element in gaining the new route was the work of a Latin America Task Force which connected the airline with local business and civic leaders.
“On behalf of the Boston visitor industry I am pleased to welcome Aeromexico to Boston and New England. The new non-stop service will mean more visitors and significantly more spending from Mexico and Latin America for our city and for our hotels, restaurant, attractions and retailers. The Boston and Cambridge visitor industry could see as much as $54 million in new spending thanks to Aeromexico’s new service,” said Patrick Moscaritolo, President & CEO of the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau.
With the start of this route, Aeromexico now offers 80 daily flights between Mexico City and the United States carrying close to 9,000 passengers a day between these two countries, an action that confirms the airline’s commitment to offer its customers better network connectivity with its world-class service.
